Almost 50% of total population of the world is covered by women. But still in this 21st century also, women are discriminated. Even women are not given equal rights and opportunity. Women empowerment means empowering women by providing different training, education and so on. So, women should be empowered.
If all the women are empowered, then, there will be active participation of citizens in any development work. If women are empowered, the women can be self-dependent, which helps to increase the self decision making power in family and in social work. Even in the context of our own country women are not given equal chance and right so they don’t get chance to make family decision and so on. So, if women are empowered then, they will be employed which may even help to reduce poverty and women can contribute some percent of financial support to the family and even they can increase their standard of livelihood. Different ways and measures should be adopted to empower women. Some of the ways are:
- - Conduct information and formal education programme so that women will be more educated. As education is one of the tools to empower women.
- - There should not be any biasness (discrimination) between men and women in employment sectors i.e. equal chance and opportunity should be given to both in any employment section.
- - Government should make strict rules and regulation and implement it strictly and punish these people who discriminate women or lower caste people.
We even say that men and women are the two sides of same coin. Both go hand in hand. We all must agree that there is discrimination in our own family too. In most of the cities of Nepal, women are educated and employed too but only women have to do all the household activities, isn’t it a kind of discrimination done to the women, and are men participating in such activities.? So, it is very important to empower women.
So, if we want to develop our country, first of all women must be empowered for that all the individual, organization and all citizens must be together and all the discrimination should be ended and all the people must realized that “women empowerment is today’s need.”
